Artist Introduction

This December 1st-15th Litchfield, MN native Dana Sikkila will be entering Mankato West High School studio art classes to work with students to create a one of a kind printmaking installation. Students will learn about printmaking, art installation, design, and how to write about their art. This blog will be a daily documentation of the classes progress and to create awareness on the importance of having arts in our K-12 schools. 

Sikkila received her Master of Arts as well as her Non Profit Leadership Certificate from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Still based in Mankato she concentrates on making her art work as well as being Executive Director of the 410 Project Art Gallery and Artistic Director of Black Water Press, both volunteer managed art spaces bring arts and arts programing to the Mankato community. She also acts as an Adjunct Professor at MNSU, Mankato within the Art Department teaching sculpture and drawing. Over the past three years of being Director of the 410 Project she's introduced numerous art programs and special events for both children and adults to help strike creativity, positive self esteem, and art awareness in all. Besides these duties Sikkila has received numerous awards including 2015 Mankato's YWCA Young Woman of Distinction, 2015 Woman of Courage and Vision from MNSU, Mankato, featured on Post Cards, Pioneer's PBS Art TV Program, and KEYC's Jefferson Good Person Award.
